SELF-DETERMINATION PROGRAMS (SDP)
Self-Determination Programs (SDP) were made available to all regional center consumers by the California Department of
Developmental Disabilities in July 2021.
SDP gives families and their children with a learning disability the authority and flexibility over regional center funding, programs
and services to meet a consumer’s IPP goals.
Dr. Tatiana Cura, Ed.D. takes the role of an Independent Facilitator in the SDP transition process. SDP requires an initial
meeting/consultation and client intake assessment is to create a Person-Centered Plan.
New IPP goals, programs and services are then recommended and an IPP meeting is held with the family’s regional center and
SDP team to discuss goals, budget and what it means for the consumer to live their most independent/self-determined life.
